What is an eBook?

eBooks are book-length publications in digital form that consist of text or images (or both) and are produced on, published through, and readable by eReader applications, as well as on electronic devices such as:

  • Computers ( PC and Mac )

  • Smartphones

  • iPhones

  • iPads

  • Android tablets

  • eBook readers

eBook readers present content in either black & white or color on electronic devices that use electronic liquid ink that reproduces traditional book paper on the screen so as to not strain the eyes.

Designing eBooks in fixed layout.

Fixed-layout eBooks are a popular format for today’s eBooks. Especially for childrens eBooks and for complex non-fiction like cookbooks and textbooks. Unlike standard eBook files, fixed layout eBooks can retain the same page layout and design as their print book counterparts, and can sometimes contain enhancements that make them more interesting and interactive.

Fixed layout eBooks are not PDFs, and they should never be created from flat images on every page. They are fully-functional HTML-based eBook files in every way, however, the specific styles and layouts used in these files are not re-flowable like standard eBook files. We usually discuss with the client the best choice for his project and suggest the correct format.
